Episode 40: As Long as It Is Called Today | Hebrews 3:13 — Coach C’s Neighborhood

It’s a beautiful day to be a neighbor.

Today’s Family Wins devotional reflects on Hebrews 3:13 — “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

Every day brings its own challenges, responsibilities, and problems, and you can only face them one at a time. The writer of Hebrews gives three daily disciplines to keep you faithful, whatever the day holds. Today, hear God’s voice (Hebrews 3:7). Today, encourage one another (Hebrews 3:13). Today, do not harden your heart (Hebrews 3:8, 15). Listen to God, lift up your brothers and sisters in Christ, and refuse to let your heart grow hard. Those are the essentials of daily victory. Alexander Maclaren adds a hard, honest question about temptation. The pleasure sin promises may be real enough. But once you get the thing you wanted, what then? Are you better for it? Are you satisfied? Is it as good in your hand as it looked from across the fence? Having gotten what we craved, don’t we find it never fully satisfies? So we pray: Father, thank You for Your Word, which teaches me how to avoid sin. Help me listen carefully to whatever You speak through its pages. Let me encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ and draw strength from their fellowship. Above all, Lord, give me a soft, teachable heart that beats strongly for You. Amen.

A godly husband isn’t made in a day. Neither is a godly wife, a godly father, or a godly mother. They’re made in moments like this one — one verse, one choice, one day at a time.
