Episode 41: Hearing the Heartthrobs of God | Hebrews 4:12 — Coach C’s Neighborhood

It’s a beautiful day to be a neighbor.

Today’s Family Wins devotional reflects on Hebrews 4:12 — “For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Penetrating sirens. Penetrating screams. Penetrating stares. Penetrating words. In each case, your body reacts fast. Adrenaline tells your heart, “Action needed. Now.” The Word of God works the same way. It pierces the heart with truth that’s too important to ignore. A.T. Pierson shows us how alive it is. Is it a mirror? Yes, but a mirror like a living eye. Is it a seed? Yes, but a seed that carries the life of God. Is it a sword? Yes, but a sword that sees everything and pierces the human heart. Hold it reverently, because it is a living book. Speak to it, and it will answer you. Bend close to listen, and you will hear the heartthrobs of God. We are to hold this Word forth as the light of life in a crooked and twisted generation. Like birds that beat themselves senseless against the light of the Statue of Liberty, the creatures of darkness will assault it and try in vain to put out its flame. And still it stands, immovable and serene. It may be unnerving to know something can get past all your defenses and pierce your heart with the truth. But you can’t change the truth. You can let it change you. That’s its purpose: to penetrate, divide, judge, and transform your life. Hold it reverently, and hold it often.

A godly husband isn’t made in a day. Neither is a godly wife, a godly father, or a godly mother. They’re made in moments like this one — one verse, one choice, one day at a time.
