It’s a beautiful day to be a neighbor.
Today’s Family Wins devotional reflects on 1 Timothy 5:16 — “If any woman who is a believer has widows in her care, she should continue to help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.”
A pagan emperor once made a grudging observation about an earlier generation of Christians: they feed not only their poor, but ours as well. Alfred Plummer explains the order Paul lays out — the needy support themselves as long as they can; when they can’t, their own family steps in; only when there’s no family left does the church carry the weight. It’s far easier to say “I’ll pray for you” than “I’ll bring you a meal.” It’s far cheaper to point someone toward welfare than to become personally responsible for the welfare of someone you love. Once a genuine need is clear, God’s will is clear too. The question worth sitting with: would that same thing be said of your generation?

A godly husband isn’t made in a day. Neither is a godly wife, a godly father, or a godly mother. They’re made in moments like this — one verse, one choice, one day at a time.
