It’s a beautiful day to be a neighbor.
Today’s Family Wins devotional reflects on Hebrews 9:22 — “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”
Many a person with oxygen to breathe and food to eat has died anyway. The problem? Not enough blood to carry oxygen and nutrients to the rest of the body. No blood, no life. Do you see the spiritual analogy? Take away the blood of Christ, and there can be no spiritual life. For sins to be covered, blood must be spilled, and Jesus met that requirement on the cross. Charles Spurgeon paints the picture. Sin cannot be pardoned without atonement. There is no hope for any of us outside of Christ, because no other bloodshedding is worth a thought as an atonement for sin. All people stand on a level in their need of Him, even the moral, the generous, the amiable, and the patriotic. The rule will not be altered to make an exception for us. It yields to nothing less potent than the blood of the One whom God has set forth as the satisfaction for sin. People of merely formal religion cannot understand how we rejoice that all our sins are forgiven for Christ’s sake. Their works, prayers, and ceremonies give them very poor comfort, and no wonder they are uneasy. They are neglecting the one great salvation and trying to get forgiveness without blood. So let the words of William Cowper become your prayer of praise today: “There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins; and sinners plunge beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.”
