Episode 34: The Questions That Matter | Titus 3:9 — Coach C’s Neighborhood

It’s a beautiful day to be a neighbor.

Today’s Family Wins devotional reflects on Titus 3:9 — “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.”

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin? Can God make a rock so big He can’t move it? Where did Cain get his wife? Questions like these generate far more heat than light. Paul told both Timothy and Titus to steer clear of them, because they pull us away from the weightier matters of the Christian life. Charles Spurgeon agreed. Our business, he said, is neither to ask nor answer foolish questions, but to avoid them altogether. Stay busy with good works, and you won’t have time for needless quarrels. But some questions we must never dodge. Do I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ? Am I renewed in the spirit of my mind? Am I walking after the Spirit and not the flesh? Am I growing in grace? Am I looking for the coming of the Lord? Those questions demand an honest answer. You probably carry a list of questions you’d love God to answer this side of heaven. Some of them are good ones, and He may answer them someday. In the meantime, ask yourself this: when I meet God face to face, how will I answer the questions He has for me?

A godly husband isn’t made in a day. Neither is a godly wife, a godly father, or a godly mother. They’re made in moments like this one — one verse, one choice, one day at a time.
